Product Description
The Optris CT G5 pyrometer is expertly designed for precise temperature measurement in glass-related applications. The pyrometers two-piece sensor design, which includes a separate electronic box with programming keys and a display, ensures user-friendly operation and accurate temperature readings across a range of 100 °C to 1650 °C (212 °F to 3002 °F). Ideal for vehicle and flat glass manufacturing processes, the CT G5 delivers reliable and accurate temperature measurements to meet diverse industrial needs.
In non-contact stationary infrared temperature measurement, ensuring accuracy requires careful consideration of emissivity, which depends on material properties, surface characteristics, wavelength, measuring angle, and the measuring setup. For example, uncoated glass typically exhibits an emissivity of 0.85 in the longwave range (8 µm – 14 µm). However, in high-temperature processes such as glass production, using wavelengths of 5.0 µm or 7.9 µm is preferred due to their higher emissivity values (≥0.95) in those spectral ranges. Wavelength selection is crucial for effectively measuring the glass surface and deeper layers, with 1.0 µm, 2.2 µm, or 3.9 µm suitable for deeper layers, and 5.0 µm recommended for surface measurements. For lower temperatures, wavelengths between 8 µm and 14 µm and an emissivity of 0.85 help mitigate reflection effects.
The Optris CT G5, with its specialized spectral range of 5.0 µm, is a versatile tool for measuring glass temperatures in various industrial processes. The infrared thermometer is suitable for container glass production, vehicle glass manufacturing, and solar cell production, delivering reliable temperature data. The compact stainless steel measuring head allows for versatile installations, including multi-spot configurations such as line scanning, even in limited spaces. The measuring head operates in ambient temperatures of up to 85 C without additional cooling, making it robust and adaptable.
A key attribute of the Optris CT G5 is its precise non-contact temperature measurement facilitated by separate electronics. The electronic box offers a wide array of analog and digital outputs, including 0/4 – 20 mA, 0 – 5 V, 0 – 10 V, thermocouple (type K or J), USB, RS485, and RS232 interfaces, as well as relay outputs (2 x optically isolated), Profibus DP, ProfiNet, and Ethernet, Ethernet/IP.
To further enhance the functionality of the infrared sensor, various optional accessories are available, catering to diverse industrial needs. The mounting fork ensures secure and stable installation for continuous temperature monitoring. The sighting tube enhances targeting precision and accuracy in specific applications. The close-focus lens allows detailed temperature measurements on small or distant objects, and the air purge accessory protects the temperature sensor from contaminants to maintain the optical path in harsh environments. Additionally, the cooling jackets optimize performance in elevated temperature conditions, ensuring consistent and accurate readings.
These optional accessories significantly enhance the versatility of the Optris CT G5 series, providing tailored solutions for various industrial scenarios.
In summary, the Optris CT G5 series pyrometer combines precision, adaptability, and durability to facilitate non-contact temperature measurements in glass-related applications. Whether capturing rapid manufacturing processes or operating in challenging conditions, the IR pyrometer is a reliable and efficient solution for diverse industrial needs.

FAQs
Can I shorten the cable between the sensor head and the electronics box?
On the model CT G5, the sensing head cable can be shortened by max. 3 m (9.8 ft)
What distance-to-spot size ratio is correct for the application?
The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. To prevent measuring errors, the object should fill out the optics field of view. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or should be smaller than that.
How can I improve the noise amplitude of the sensor?
In the CT models, the head cable must not be moved during the measurement. Use shielded cables only. The sensor shield has to be grounded. Avoid ground loops and related signal interferences in industrial environments. It might be necessary to interrupt the ground connections inside the electronics box. To do this, switch the jumper inside the electronics box to another position. Review the manual.
How do I exchange the sensor head?
From the factory side, the sensing head has already been connected to the electronics and the calibration code has been entered. Any exchange of sensing heads and electronics is possible inside a certain model group. Every head has a specific calibration code, which is printed on the head cable. This calibration code must be stored in the electronic box for correct temperature measurement and sensor functionality.
Can I use the CT G5 as a 2-wire sensor?
Please do not connect a supply voltage to the analog outputs, as this will destroy the output. The CT G5 is not a 2-wire sensor. Please review the CSmicro series, as this is a two-wire sensor.
