Product Description

The CSmicro LT hs pyrometer sets a new standard in temperature resolution, pushing the boundaries of low-noise infrared pyrometry to achieve remarkable precision. Capable of detecting temperature differences as minute as 0.025 °C, this pyrometer excels in providing precise, high-resolution, non-contact temperature sensing in the infrared long wavelength 8-14µm spectrum, particularly optimized for high-emissivity targets.

Operating within a temperature range of -20 °C to 150 °C, with a head operating temperature of -20 °C to 75 °C, this thermal sensor offers exceptional versatility. Output options include 0-5 V or 4-20 mA, ensuring compatibility with various applications.

Setting it apart from the CSmicro LT, the CSmicro LT hs variant offers even finer temperature resolution within its reduced temperature range, catering to specialized temperature measurement requirements. Moreover, the CSmicro LT hs series with mA output supports two-wire-output operation, allowing for dynamic adjustment of the electrical current in the ground loop line based on the measured temperature.

With a rapid response time of 150 ms, the CSmicro LT hs pyrometer proves indispensable for control loop inputs across a spectrum of industries, including asphalt monitoring, plastic processing, medical applications, quality control, semiconductors, and manufacturing.

The CSmicro LT hs pyrometer features a compact stainless steel housing, measuring a mere 29 mm in diameter and 55 mm in length, ensuring robustness and longevity even in the most challenging conditions.

In scenarios where the sensor head is affixed to a heat-conducting component and the sensor cable is routed to a cooler area, a consistent heat flow can generate a temperature gradient along the sensor, particularly impacting the internal detector. This gradient is influenced by both the process temperature and ambient conditions.

A static temperature gradient can lead to deviations in temperature readings and affect the sensor’s thermal shock behavior. However, the design of the CSmicro LT hs minimizes these effects by reducing thermal gradients along the sensor head. This optimization enhances thermal shock resistance, ensuring accuracy and repeatability even in environments with rapidly fluctuating ambient temperatures.

The CSmicro LT hs is equipped with an intelligent LED display, offering a range of functions including alarm signaling, target support, self-diagnosis, and temperature-code display. This intuitive interface enhances usability and ensures efficient temperature monitoring in various applications.

To further enhance durability, electronic components within the cable safeguard the measuring head against high temperatures, ensuring reliable performance even in extreme conditions.

Optional accessories such as air purging systems, mounting flanges, and close-focus optics extend the capabilities of the CSmicro LT hs pyrometer. These accessories enable precise temperature measurements of small spot-size targets from close distances, providing flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse measurement requirements.

These pyrometers are designed and manufactured in Germany, carefully calibrated to government standards such as PTB or NIST. For large-quantity OEM customers, customization options, such as different cable sizes, are available. As with all Optris products, application engineers are on hand to discuss industrial applications and provide after-sales support.

Software

The Optris CompactConnect software improves the functionalities of Optris fixed infrared pyrometers, offering various monitoring, analysis, and control features beyond basic temperature measurement. It includes features like visualizing temperature trends with temperature-time diagrams and documentation. The software enables data logging, automatic process controls, parameterization of the pyrometer via configuration settings, and setting up programmable outputs and inputs. Additionally, it provides advanced signal-processing functionalities. Compact Connect The Optris IR mobile allows users to set up and commission an Optris infrared pyrometer or infrared camera with an Android smartphone or tablet. This tool becomes handy for commissioning and aligning the infrared cameras field of view or adjusting the configuration. The app analyzes the connected infrared cameras live infrared image stream with auto hot and cold spot detection. For pyrometers, a temperature-time diagram or the video signal is displayed. This app works on most Android devices running 5.0+ with a USB port supporting USB-OTG (On The Go). Google Play

FAQs

What is the main difference between the CSmicro LT and the CSmicro LT hs?

Unlike the CSmicro LT series, the LT HS variant offers finer temperature resolution within its narrower temperature range, making the temperature sensor ideal for specialized temperature measurements.

How can I change the scaling, emissivity, or other settings?

The Optris CS kit (ACCSMIAC) and the software CompactConnect must be used to change the pyrometers settings.

Can I set up the CSmicro LT hs pyrometer for digital communication?

The optional USB programming kit is required for digital communication. Using the terminal block, connect each wire of the USB adapter cable with the same colored wire of the sensor cable. The sensor offers bidirectional and unidirectional digital communication. Bidirectional communication allows for the sending and receiving of data between the sensor and a computer. Unidirectional communication supports a fast burst mode of data in which the sensor only sends data.

Does the CSmicro LT hs support an RS232 communication?

Yes, for a bidirectional RS232 connection of the sensor, an additional interface board (recommended MAX3381E) is needed. MAX3381E

Does the CSmicro LT hs support an open collector output?

Yes, an additional open collector output is supported. The open collector output is an additional alarm output on the CSmicro LT hs. In addition, the simultaneous analog output is an open collector output and can trigger an external relay, for example. In the case of long wires, there might be a voltage drop at the ground wire, and the mV output is distorted. The brown wire can be used as a ground supply, and the thermocouple wire can be used as a ground.

Can I connect the CSmicro LT hs to a smartphone to adjust the settings?

The CSmicro LT hs sensor can connect directly to an Android smartphone or tablet. The IR mobile application monitors and analyses infrared temperature measurements on a connected Android smartphone or tablet. The phone powers the CSmicro LT hs pyrometer.

When can I use the CSmicro LT hs after powering?

The CSmicro LT hs has a warm-up time. At a supply voltage (Vcc) ≥ 12 V, the sensor takes about 5 minutes to work in a stable mode. Therefore, the LED will show an alarm state for up to 5 minutes after switching on the unit.

How far can I position the CSmicro LT hs from the target?

The measuring object’s size and the infrared thermometers optical resolution determine the maximum distance between the sensing head and the measuring object. The object should fill out the optics’ field of view to prevent measuring deviations. Consequently, the spot should always be at least the same size as the object or smaller. The spot size refers to 90% of the radiation energy.

Which changes have to be selected if a close-focus lens is used?

The optional CF lens allows the measurement of small objects. If the CF lens is used, the transmission has to be set to 0.78. The optional USB kit (including software) must change this value. The assigned transmission (average value) is a characteristic value that may have a certain scattering. If required, the transmission has to be determined experimentally.

What is the function of the green LED at the end of the sensor?

The green LED can be programmed for the following functions: alarming, aiming support, self-diagnostic, and temperature Code indication. The USB adapter cable and software are necessary for the configuration. The factory default setting for the LED is self-diagnostic.

What LED at the end of the sensor is always on?

In the self-diagnostic mode, if the LED is always on or always on with short breaks, the sensor indicates that it is unstable due to ambient temperature changes or is in an error mode.

What kind of power supply is required?

Use a separate, stabilized power supply with an output voltage of 5-30 V DC. The power supply’s residual ripple should be a maximum of 200 mV. Use shielded cables only for all power and data lines.

Do I need to ground the shielding of the CSmicro?

The shield (black) on the CSmicro is not connected to GND (brown). Connecting the shield to the ground or GND (whichever works best) is necessary. Please review the manual to review the drawings.

What is / shall be the output impedance for the CSmicro with mA and mV output?

The CSmicro’s output impedance with an mV output must be ≥ 10 kΩ. The maximum loop impedance for the CSmicro with an mA output is 1000 Ω.
